Super Eagles coach banned from all football-related activities

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, Salisu Yusuf, has been banned from all football-related activities in Nigeria for one year, after he was caught on tape accepting cash to pick players in his WAFU team squad.

Gernot Rohr Names Onazi, Musa, Omeruo, 21 Others for Seychelles

Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has released a list of 24 Nigeria senior players who will do battle for the three points in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles in Victoria on September 7.

At a world press conference in Lagos on Friday, Rohr, flanked by NFF 1st Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi and Executive Board Member Aisha Falode, unveiled a list of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders and seven forwards. 75 stranded World Cup fans absconded in Russia, despite FG’s intervention

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says 75 out of 230 stranded Nigerian Football fans absconded in Russia after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Dr. Tope Elias-Fatile, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja that the fans absconded despite government’s efforts to repatriate them.

Super Eagles chief coach, Salisu Yusuf, caught taking cash to influence players’ selection [VIDEO]

Nigeria’s Super Eagles chief coach, Salisu Yusuf, is set to face the combined wrath of FIFA, CAF and the NFF after he was caught on camera taking cash to influence players’ selection.

The footage, which was released by BBC Africa Eye, was captured by Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in September 2017. In the video, Yusuf was seen taking cash from men posing as football agents.


Yusuf, who is the chief coach of the Super Eagles, and first assistant during the World Cup, is due to lead the national team to the Olympics in 2020. He was in charge of the Super Eagles Team B to the 2017 WAFU and 2018 CHAN where they lost in both finals.

The supposed football agents for some players approached Yusuf in September 2017 for a conversation about players’ selection. During the conversation, they handed the Nigerian coach N360, 000 ($1000) and alluded to more cash incentives if he selects their players for CHAN 2018 which held in Morocco.

Mesut Özil retires from international football over racism and discrimination

German footballer, Mesut Özil has announced his retirement from international football with immediate effect, the midfielder hitting out at what he perceived to be unfair discrimination surrounding his meeting with the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in May.

Özil was a member of the Germany squad that went out of the World Cup finals in Russia at the group stage and was the target of criticism for his performances as well as his meeting with Erdoğan, who has been accused of human rights abuses.

World Cup: 155 stranded Nigerians in Russia arrive Abuja


155 out of 230 Nigerian football fans stranded in Russia after the 2018 FIFA World Cup arrived the country on Friday night.

The stranded football fans including a nursing mother in her mid thirties came through Ethiopian Airline flight number ET-ALP that arrived Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja at about 9.12 p.m on July 20.
