South Africa in recession for first time since 2009
South Africa entered recession in the second quarter for the first time since 2009, data showed on Tuesday, in a stinging blow to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s efforts to revive the economy after a decade of stagnation.
A report by Reuters quoted Statistics South Africa as saying the economy contracted by 0.7 per cent quarter-on-quarter, led by declines in the agricultural, transport and retail sectors.

MTN kicks against $8.1bn demand, says all dividends were approved by CBN
MTN Nigeria says all dividends it paid to its shareholders between 2007 and 2015 were approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Reps Order Immediate Withdrawal Of Dirty Naira Notes From Circulation
The House of Representatives yesterday urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commence immediate withdrawal of mutilated naira notes from all banks, and replace them with new notes, especially the N100 notes. The House also mandated its Committee on Banking and Currency to investigate the illegal racketeering of mint Naira notes on the streets while it is perpetually unavailable in banks.

Aliko Dangote gets $650 million Afreximbank loan for Lekki refinery
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has signed a $650 million loan facility with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) for his oil refinery project in Lekki, Nigeria.
The seven-year term loan would attract a moratorium of five years, according to facility terms read out during the signing.

MTN offices sealed over non unionism
Postal and Telecommunications Employee (NUPTE) on Monday picketed MTN over non unionism.
Mr Olajuwon Olaide , the Chairman NUPTE Ibadan told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the MTN office, off Ring Road, Ibadan, that the union was sealing all MTN offices in all the states in the country.
