A video evidence has suggested that Barcelona star Lionel Messi rejected the Copa America Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
The award was never given though its trophy was displayed on the stand and it was generally believed he had rejected the award.
In the opening froup game of Argentina’s Copa America campaign against Paraguay, Messi rejected the Player of the Match award because he team let a 2-0 half time lead slip.
At last year’s Corld Cup, Messi was awarded the MVP award was looked disinterested in collecting the award in an awkward presentation ceremony after his team failed to beat Germany in the final despite numerous chances in regulation and extra-time.
Bein Sport says Messi felt unable to collect the MVP award which led the organisers to withdraw the trophy rather than give it to someone else just like they had done in the group stages.
Chile won the Copa America following a 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory against Argentina in Santiago stadium in Chile. Messi’s family was reportedly attacked by opposition fans in the stadium
Eduardo Vargas (Chile) and Paolo Guerrero (Peru) shared the top scorer award with four goals each while Claudio Bravo (Chile) won the loden gloves award for the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
