Primary school teachers in Kogi State, on Tuesday, protested the non payment of February and March salaries as well as leave allowances in the last three years.
The teachers under the Basic Education Staff Association of Nigeria, BESAN, later converged on the gate of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, which was under lock and key.
Addressing newsmen later, the state Chairman of BESAN, Adomu Sule, said the teachers had not been paid their February and March salaries, adding that payment of leave allowances had been stopped since 2001.
According to Sule, teachers who were also promoted since 2009 had not received the cash backing even as they had been undergoing different kinds of screening since 2011 without any positive results.
”There was an agreement between the teachers and SUBEB lastDecember, that the minimum wage which was being implemented at 60 per cent level would be fully implemented by March this year. But till now we are yet to receive the February and March salaries while still waiting for full implementation of the new minimum wage,” Sule added.
