Two members of a suspected armed robbery syndicate, who allegedly invaded the Ibese factory of Dangote Cement Company in the Yewa South Local Government Council area of Ogun State, South-west Nigeria, have met their waterloo.
The duo were part of a seven-man robbery gang that reportedly engaged a team of policemen for daring to obstruct them from accomplishing their mission in the company early this morning,
The robbers had, according to the state's Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, invaded the company, armed with dangerous weapons and moved straight to its Material Section with the intent to cart away some armoured cables.
But while they felt they were near having a field day, the eagle-eyed company's security men acted the spoilers by alerting policemen on duty in the company, who promptly raced to the scene.
"On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun battle, which lasted for about 45 minutes.
"At the end of the encounter, one of the robbers was shot dead while another was arrested with serious gunshot injuries but died on the way to the hospital. Other members of the gang escaped with various degrees of gun shot injuries", Oyeyemi stated.

However, a locally-made single-barrel gun, 14 expended cartridges, a dagger and a house breaking equipment were recovered from them

Meanwhile, the State's Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has commended the gallantry display of his men, just as he appealed to members of the public, especially hospital, to report anyone seen with gunshot wounds to the police.
The police boss also assured residents of the state of adequate security before during and after the forthcoming Yuletide period
