SPORTS: Saudi Arabia’s Football Team Refuse To Observe Minute’s Silence For London Attack Victims

Saudi footballers ignored the stadium announcers order when he asked for a minute of silence, 11 Australian players in the field lined up in the center circle with their arms around their teammates' shoulders.



According to officials, the minute of silence was approved by the Asian Football Confederation before the game and while the Saudi national team accepted the tribute, the players refused to pay their respects.

The terrorist attack last Saturday on the London Bridge killed seven people, including two Australian citizens.

After the match, a spokesman for the Australian Football Federation (FFA) also confirmed that they had an agreement with the Asian Football Confederation to keep a minute of silence for victims of the London Bridge terrorist attack.

"The FFA called for an agreement between the Asian Football Confederation and the Saudi national team to keep a minute of silence in memory of those lost in the terrorist attacks on Saturday night in London and in particular the two Australian women.

Both the AFC and the Saudi team agreed that the minute of silence could be celebrated.
"The FFA was advised by Saudi team officials that this tradition was not in harmony with Saudi culture and that they would move to their side of the field and respect our custom while taking their own positions in the field
The match ended 3-3 in favor of Australia, leaving Saudi Arabia in 16 points in its qualifying group.
