Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will miss Bayer Leverkusen’s trip to Hamburg on Friday after picking up a groin injury in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Hernandez, 28, ended his goal drought last Saturday when he doubled Leverkusen’s lead against Gladbach shortly before half-time. However, his goal was not enough to secure points against the local rivals who bounced back with three goals in the second half.
When Leverkusen travel to Hamburg, who started their year with two straight away defeats, the Mexico international will not be present, Bayer announced on Wednesday.
A statement on the club’s official website said: “A slight groin injury rules the Mexican striker out of Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s away fixture at Hamburg SV on Friday night.”
The club did not say when Hernandez will be able to resume team training.
Leverkusen, currently ninth in Bundesliga with only 24 points from 18 games, take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 on Feb. 21.
