FACEBOOK has been forced to apologise to its 1.7 billion users after the social media giant accidentally memorialised a number of its pages.
The death notices caused a stir on social media and someone even captured a memorial page for Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder and chief executive.
It is unclear how many of Facebook’s users were told they were dead, but in a statement relayed through a spokeswoman, the social network said it had fixed the glitch.
“For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialised profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts,” the statement read. “This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it.”
