Read Why Amaechi May Not Become Minister

Plots by Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to stop the confirmation of former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi as a minister, have thickened, indications emerged yesterday.

The senators, it was gathered, are still unhappy that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, ignored the consideration of the Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions report on alleged fraud against Amaechi and called him for screening.

Amaechi, after series of haywire politics was screened on Thursday with the former governor responding to questions from only Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the PDP Senators informed the Red Chamber of their decision not to question Amaechi. 

However, the APC Senators are said to be angry at the plot of the PDP senators. According to an APC senator close to the leadership of the Senate, the move by the Senators is a non-issue. He added that even if the Senate were to go for a division, the PDP does not have the number to stop Amaechi's confirmation.
