A 22-year-old civil servant, Adekunle Taiwo, who allegedly assaulted his neighbour’s 5-year-old daughter was arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court in Ikeja.
The accused, who resides at 15, Atobaje Street, Agege area of the state is facing a one count charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, Insp. Racheal Williams, told the court that the offence was committed on July 12 at about 10.30 pm at the residence of the accused.
Williams said the victim’s mother went to buy food, leaving the child behind, adding that Taiwo who just returned from work, on sighting her, dragged the 5-year-old to a corner and raped her.
“The cry of the child alerted a neighbour who came outside his room and caught the accused in the act,” she said.
