Actor Morgan Freeman’s Granddaughter Murdered in NYC

Actor Morgan Freeman has suffered a major loss today after learning his 33-year-old step granddaughter has been murdered.

E’Dena Hines, the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife, was found lying in the street around 3 a.m. Sunday morning outside her home in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood with stab wounds to her torso, People Magazine reports. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where she passed away.

The NYPD released a statement to People, saying they have taken a 30-year-old man into custody near the scene and he also was transported to a local hospital. No other details have been given about the man being a suspect or a witness.


Freeman, who divorced Hines’ grandmother in 2010, is reflecting on her life and talent in a recently released comment to People:

"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," he said. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

 

Hines’ website says she is an actress and has studied at New York University’s Graduate Acting Program. Hines' site also mentions she has been working with youth in Memphis, Tennessee, both her and Freeman's birthplace.
