Unilag Convocation Postponed As Jonathan Insists on Name Change To ''MAULAG''

The University of Lagos, Akoka golden jubilee convocation, scheduled to hold between Thursday (today) and Saturday has been postponed indefinitely.
Findings revealed that the postponement came as a big disappointment for the graduating students, who had prepared for the ceremony. Though, the reason for the postponement was not disclosed to the public, sources claim that the development was caused by President Goodluck Jonathan’s insistence to rename UNILAG as Moshood Abiola University of Lagos and to also effect a change in its certificates as a condition for holding the convocation. It would be recalled that on Democracy day, May 29, 2012, President Jonathan renamed UNILAG after the Late Chief Moshood Abiola as a mark of honour for the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. However, the announcement raised several questions as students took to the street to protest the sudden change of name.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Rahamon Bello, has since travelled to Abuja to meet with the minister over the issue.
