Barely three days after students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, were asked to vacate their respective dorms ahead of the 24th Nigerian University Games (NUGA), some students of famous Awolowo Hall at around noon on Monday, 10th February 2014 trapped an antelope. According to Mutiu Oyatoye, a final year student of Language Arts explained that the animal was spotted by a fellow student around Self-Help block moving towards Block five of the hostel. So, he quickly alerted other students by shouting “Won ti de o”. Hearing this, other students trooped out en masse to chase the animal until it was caught. After been caught, some students suggested that it should be taken to the University Zoological Garden while some also suggested it should be used as the day’s meat.
ContinueSpeaking with our correspondents, Yusuf Basit, a part three students of Linguistics and African Languages said he heard the noise of fellow “Awoites” so he quickly rushed to the scene. Getting there, he saw an antelope with rope tied around its neck.
Porters at the scene of the event were surprised at the sight of the animal lamenting how such animal could have made its way into the hall of residence. As at the time of filing this report, the animal has already been slaughtered and shared among students present unevenly.
